How are you feeling?

When the World Asks: “How Are You Really Feeling?”

How are you feeling right now?

It’s such a simple question, isn’t it? How are you really feeling? We hear it almost every day, yet rarely pause to give it the attention it deserves. In our fast-paced world, we’re so busy living on autopilot; meeting deadlines, managing responsibilities, and juggling endless to-do lists that we often forget to check in with ourselves.

The truth is, most of us don’t even take the time to consciously acknowledge our emotions. We’re so used to moving through life in survival mode that reflecting on how we actually feel becomes a luxury.

So when I was recently asked this question, it stopped me in my tracks. It felt less like a polite conversation starter and more like a wake-up call.

Here’s the thing: writing down my feelings wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. In fact, it was hard ,uncomfortably hard. And I realized why. For years, I’ve shown the world a version of myself that’s strong, happy, and in control. It’s almost second nature now, like wearing an invisible armor.

Because let’s face it,showing the world how perfectly you’re living is much easier than expressing your vulnerabilities. But deep inside, the question lingers: Does hiding my struggles mean I’m weak? Or do I just not want others to pity me?

Maybe I know the answer. Maybe I’m just not ready to say it out loud.

So, how am I really feeling today? If I strip away the smiles and strength I show the world, the truth is this: my inner world feels like it’s crumbling. I’m holding it together with both hands, doing my best to keep going, and yes, I believe I’ll continue to succeed in holding it all tight.

Why? Because life isn’t just one big struggle, it’s a collection of daily battles. And every day, I fight mine with the hope of making life a little better.

But here’s my confession: I’m not ready to talk about all of it yet. Not in full. Not out loud. This what you’re reading right now,is just a small attempt, a test to see if I’m ready to share my raw truth.

And the honest answer? Not yet. 🙈If you’re reading this, maybe you needed the reminder too. Ask yourself: How am I really feeling today? Write it down, even if it feels messy, even if it doesn’t make sense. You don’t have to share it with the world but you do owe it to yourself. Because the simple act of checking in with your own heart can be the first step toward healing.

  3. Dear Sarika,

Your courage in sharing even these few honest words speaks volumes about your character. The very act of recognising this internal struggle – and finding the strength to write it down – shows remarkable wisdom.

You speak of holding things together with both hands, and I see great nobility in that effort. But remember, true strength isn’t found in carrying every burden alone. Sometimes, the most courageous thing we can do is allow ourselves to be human, to acknowledge that we’re not meant to weather every storm in solitude.

Your heart’s honesty, even in this small measure, is a gift to yourself and others who recognise their own struggles in your words. Take your time – healing happens at its own pace.

    1. Thank you so much Bob for these kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a lot to me that you’ve taken the time to share this perspective. I’m learning, little by little, that vulnerability is not weakness but a form of courage in itself. You are right ! we aren’t meant to hold every storm on our own, and sometimes allowing ourselves to be human is the bravest step forward.
