What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
Just the other day, I was discussing longevity in the context of medical advancements with one of my friends.Personally, I believe that living a meaningful and fulfilling life is far more important than simply living a long one. I think the quality of life matters more than its duration. For me, an average lifespan is sufficient, especially in this era of global warming. Just look at the state of the world, while we’re still recovering from the economic impact of COVID-19, a new virus, HIMV is already waiting to welcome us with open arms. It feels like the world is collapsing into chaos, from the pandemic and the Amazon fires to the Ukraine war, other war conflicts, hurricanes, storms, rising temperatures, and much more.
People often tell me I overthink these issues, saying we humans will adapt and survive, just as we did with COVID. I can’t help but question, what’s the point of surviving under such circumstances? We’ve turned Earth into a living hell, and yet we dream of extending our lives. Whenever the topic of longevity comes up, I can’t help but think of global warming and its unpredictable consequences. It’s a reminder of how irresponsible we humans have been, and continue to be. As one of the most intelligent species, we often act in the most foolish ways.
