“The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”
“Happiness is always determined by your heart.”
Read this one twice- “IKIGAI” Japanese secret of happy and long life. It is simplistic ,it is tiny, and talks about how purpose plays an important role in the life and the different ways in which it manifests itself. The book explores the Japanese concept called “Ikigai” means “Reason for being”. There’s a point of intersection between what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs and what you can be paid for and that’s Ikigai, and I’m still not sure what mine is. It’s something we all really should think about rather than yearning for something more in our life, and maybe it’s in our hobbies rather than in our job but we really should try to find something in life that feeds our soul.
This book explains how important it is to live a meaningful life along with healthy life. The Author used many examples to elaborate the healthy living. How green and healthy food is important. Drawing on interviews with centenarians in Okinawa, Japan (a region with one of the highest life expectancies in the world), the book highlights below lifestyle habits:
- Find your Ikigai: Identify your purpose that leads to a fullfilling life.
- Healthy Diet: Eat the plant based food in the moderation Follow Japanese concept “Hara Hachi Bu” means eating only until you are 80% full.
- Stay Active: Staying physically active in any form of physical activity and hobbies plays a really important role in it.
- Social Connections: Maintaining a sense of community. Strong community ties and friendships always enhance well-being.
- Mindfulness: It is not only important eating mindfully but being fully immersed in what you do.
- Resilience & Positivity: A positive outlook and adaptability contribute to longevity. Practice gratitude to enhance mental well-being.
This book is a powerful reminder that a meaningful life isn’t just about success it’s about health, happiness, and balance. The stories in the book make you think that the key to a long, fulfilling life is much simpler than we think.
