Discovering the meaning of my first name ‘Sarika’

Discovering the meaning of my first name ‘Sarika’ : DailyPrompt #13

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

This question takes me down memory lane to the moment I discovered who had named me. To my surprise, it wasn’t any of my family members but a group of lady farm helpers who chose my name. I had never thought much about the meaning of my name until one day, a friend at work brought it up.

It was my first conversation with a teammate, a fellow Marathi, who later became a close friend. He asked me, “What does the name Sarika mean?” At that time, it hadn’t even occurred to me to search online for the answer. Instead, I kept wondering what the meaning could be. He immediately googled it and shared a list of meanings associated with my name. One of them, “Princess,” stuck with me for a long time.

Years later, out of curiosity, I decided to look it up again and discovered another meaning of my name—a bird called Cuckoo. This time, I googled the meaning, significance, and etymology of my name, and I’m sharing my findings here.
